  • The Wood of the Black Walnut Tree

The wood of the Black Walnut tree is highly valued as it does not shrink or warp. It provides strength, hardness, and durability without excessive weight. It has excellent woodworking qualities and takes finishes well. Walnut is light to dark chocolate-brown in color, with a straight grain in the trunk. It can be found in the United States and Canada. The fine straight-grained wood has made prized high-end pieces of furniture and cabinetry, gunstocks, doors, paneling and flooring  As supply diminishes,  quality black walnut is used primarily for veneer in furniture and cabinets. The fruit is an important food source for wildlife.
