The Hard Maple tree, the source of maple syrup and maple sugar. It's extremely hard wood is used in furniture, flooring, doors, trim, cabinets, billiard cues, rolling pins and more. It has a fine grain and is stronger than oak. It stains well. It treated it can be used for decking and outdoor furniture. Grows in rich moist soils. Birds and mammals are drawn to it's sap, which they obtain through a break in a twig, branch or bark.

Sugar maple or Hard Maple, best known for its bright fall foliage and being the primary source of maple syrup is one of the most common trees in Michigan's northern hardwoods.
