The largest eastern oak. Thick corky bark allows it to withstand fires. A member of the White Oak family. The leaves have rounded lobes and the acorns mature in one season. Heavy fruit crops every three to five years, depending on weather conditins. The acorns are sweet and edible but will usualy frequently contain Nut Weevil larvae. The wood of the Burr Oak is used for cabinetry, barrels, hardwood flooring and fence posts and more.
